Bush Walks

Uncover Everything You've Been Missing

Bush walks present the unique opportunity to get closer to nature and in particular to learn about the minutiae of the bush. Bush walks or walking safaris open up a fascinating world of plants, seeds, insects, reptiles and small animals - essentially all the things you don’t see while on game drives. It is important to note that the purpose of a walking safari is not to come into close quarters with the wildlife, but rather to focus on what you’ve been missing on your game drives. There exists a vast ecosystem to be discovered of smaller animals and insects that, although may be minute in dimension compared to the larger more notorious wildlife, play an intrinsic role in the preservation and development of the overall environment. Similarly, the significance of the abundant fauna is revealed in correlation to their medicinal and practical everyday uses for the local tribes men that inhabit the area. Game walks also offer the possibility to learn bush skills, such as animal tracking and dung identification, whilst also educating you on the various species diets, mating behaviors and techniques for marking territory.

Bush walks range from a short 20 minute stroll up to 2 hours (depending on your personal preference) and are always accompanied by a tracker/guide and an armed ranger as a security precaution. Many Camps & Lodges also offer child friendly bush walks; these walking safaris have a shorter duration and have been designed to be more entertaining to better suit their younger participants.

Walking safaris are available in Tarangire, Lake Manyara and Arushanational park. There are also a couple of camps that facilitate this activity in their own private concessions located around the Serengeti national park. These concessions share the Serengeti national park’s rich ecosystems despite the fact that they are located just outside its geographical borders.

"We had a fantastic time out in the bush on a walking safari, there is so much that goes on at ground level that the eye doesn't catch! 10/10"
